World and Zoom Team up to Tackle Deepfake Impersonation

by Jennifer Mackenzie

Key Takeaways

Rising Threats of Synthetic Media

World co-founder Alex Blania has unveiled a suite of identity verification technologies designed to combat deepfake fraud and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven impersonation across financial institutions. The announcement marks World’s first industry-specific product rollout, targeting banking, asset management, and financial services where digital interactions carry high-stakes risks.

The new financial suite integrates three main tools: the World ID app, World ID for Agents, and World ID for Zoom. At the same time, World announced the general availability of World ID for Zoom, noting that Tools for Humanity, a technology company and major contributor to World, has formally joined the Zoom ISV Exchange Program.

The partnership enables enterprise customers to purchase the World ID for Zoom integration directly through the Zoom App Marketplace. Organizations can also request Orbs, custom hardware devices used for verification, for installation at corporate offices.

The product suite comes as financial institutions face mounting risks from synthetic media and AI-generated identities. A report by Deloitte estimates that AI-enabled fraud losses in the U.S. could surge from $12.3 billion in 2023 to $40 billion by 2027.

“As AI becomes increasingly prevalent in all aspects of our lives, enterprises are requesting individuals provide ‘Proofs’ about themselves to help mitigate fraud and increase trust,” said Sandro Herbig, president at Tools for Humanity. “World ID for banking and finance offers a suite of tools to add an AI-safe trust layer across their internal and external systems.”

Multi-Layer Identity Verification

The integrated suite is structured to secure customer accounts, employee workflows, and automated interactions. The World ID app serves as a digital identity wallet where users can claim, manage, and present verified credentials, while World ID for Zoom verifies participants in live video meetings using Zoom’s Realtime Media Streams.

The tool executes a real-time three-way match among an Orb-verified reference image, a device selfie, and the live video stream. Once verified, a “Human Badge” appears on the participant’s video tile.

World ID for Agents allows individuals to delegate verified credentials to AI agents, enabling the agents to confirm those proofs to third-party platforms.

“Proof of Human is no longer a nice-to-have,” said Ajay Patel, head of World ID and chief revenue officer at Tools for Humanity. “It is becoming an essential layer of trust infrastructure as AI reshapes how people communicate and interact online.”

World is collaborating with several design partners in the financial space, including Bain Capital, Vaneck Funds, Openexchange, and Outtake, to test the technology across various banking and financial workflows. The World ID for Zoom integration runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and was previously previewed in a limited beta with Vaneck Funds.

According to the company, more than 18 million people currently hold a World Proof of Human credential. World plans to demonstrate the technology at upcoming enterprise events, including Zoomtopia and Cloudflare Connect.
